Working Student – FPGA Algorithm Modeling Engineer

The team you’ll be part of

You will join the Mobile Networks RAN Business Unit and will enjoy our culture of innovation, openness, discipline, simplicity, accountability, and profit mindset.
Your future teams are developing Nokia 3GPP mainstream radio technology products and solutions including cross-technology responsibility (Multi Radio Access Technology).
Your unit’s main priorities are flawless execution of System programs including Network Management & Optimization and attached services. 

We work in small team in an environment where openness, trust and improvement mindset are encouraged, we work in agile style, having daily/weekly meetings with team mates sharing the progress and challenges. 

As part of our team you will contribute to simulation in Matlab of FPGA functionalities for 5G telecommunication system. You will work in the team responsible for generating test vectors required for testing of the system.  

What you will learn and contribute to

  • You will develop extensive knowledge of 5G system physical layer, Nokia hardware platforms and the way our customers are deploying them.
  • You will learn how to manage individual priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • You will contribute in creation of bit exact Matlab models, adding new functionalities.
  • You will be responsible for continiuse delivery of test vectors, debugging and fixing issues.
  • You will contribute in tools&scrips creation for automation.

Your skills and experience

You have: 

  • Education: on-going studies or already gained BSC / Engineer in: Telecommunication, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics  or a similar subject
  • Knowledge of Matlab, Python, Linux shell
  • Good knowledge of English (both spoken and written)

It would be nice if you also had: 

  • Knowledge of 3GPP standard
  • Knowledge of FPGA designs will be an advantage
  • Understanding of technical documentation and technical writing skills
  • Good mathematical skills will be an advantage

What you will learn and contribute to

  • creating and reviewing requirements for functional, design and interface specifications based on system and HW specifications
  • creating, reviewing and implementation of FPGA IP Component design
  • creating and reviewing verification plan for the FPGA IP components
  • provide the formal verification of IP Components
  • analyzing power, timing, and resource utilization
  • designing optimizations
  • logs analysis & fixing issues

Technologies we work with:

Your skills and experience

  • experience with RTL IP design and verification
  • experience with formal property checking of IP components
  • experience with timing closure techniques, area, and power optimization methodologies
  • understanding and ability to work with technical documentation for digital systems (microprocessors, integrated circuits, embedded systems)

Nice to have:

  • expertise in Software Design Patterns is an advantage
  • knowledge of 4G/5G standard is an advantage
  • experience with Matlab modelling and digital signaling processing is an advantage

FPGA Design Verification Engineer

Daily activities

As part of our team you will contribute to requirements analysis and decomposition, design and implement the verification scenarios using System Verilog and UVM of new FPGA functionalities for 5G telecommunication system following the complete end to end project life cycle.

You will develop extensive knowledge of 5G system physical layer, Nokia hardware platforms and the way our customers are deploying them. You will contribute to develop innovative solutions to address Nokia strategy in the 5G domain and beyond.

  • Testing frameworks.

  • Version control and code review systems.
  • Continuous integration systems.
Our expectations:
  • Education: gained BSC / Engineer in: Telecommunication, Computer Science, Electronics or a similar subject.
  • Good knowledge of English (both spoken and written).
  • FPGA programming or willingness to learn – verification skills: System Verilog, UVM.
  • Experience in FPGA verification and integration or objective programming (minimum 2 years of commercial experience).
  • Understanding of technical documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Low level/platform programming & debugging tools knowledge is an advantage.
Nice to have:
  • Verilog/VHDL knowledge.
  • Telecommunication knowledge is an advantage.
  • Embedded system background knowledge is an advantage.
  • Good programming skills with script languages (e.g. Python, Perl, Tcl) is an advantage.
  • Matlab/Octave or similar tool knowledge.
